rough day

So I lied, that day was not a tough day. Today is.

Today a colleague got... or didn't get her contract extended. And she got a week and a half notice. Which on a scale of 10 to fucking shitty, was fucking shitty.

So I don't fully understand why I'm so completely bowled over by this. I mean. We are in terrible times indeed. But I just can't help but think perhaps I would not have done it the same way. But perhaps I would, I guess we never know unless we are truly tested.

...

The thing is, there are so many ways to justify an action like this. It makes sense. It's for her own good so that she can pursue whatever opportunities there are out there. Wait let me take a moment so that I can laugh heartily.

For her own good? For HER OWN GOOD? Her own good would be leaving on her own terms. Her own good would be having TIME to digest it. Her own good would be having enough MONEY TO FINISH HER COURSE.

DON'T claim to be a fucking family and throw one of your own out at the first hint of instability.
DON'T justify what is a fucking awful decision with 'it's for your own good'
DON'T and HOW CAN YOU in good consciousness continue to feed so many so much and deny one all that she has
HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT SUCH RATIONALIZATION CAN EXIST IN ANY HUMAN PSYCHE

HOW IS IT POSSIBLE?

That we justify such cruelty.

Does it make it any better, telling us that you've thought long and hard about it?
Does it make it any better, to defend your position in any way?

IT'S YOUR JOB TO TAKE CARE OF US. EACH AND EVERY FUCKING ONE OF US

Sure we get paid. Sure.

But fundamentally, there needs to be compassion. Otherwise, otherwise, how different is it from prostitution? Wham bang thank you ma'am?

How is it different??

TELL ME BECAUSE I'M REALLY STRUGGLING WITH THIS

I just.

I just didn't expect this. From you. From the firm.

******

But who am I to espouse loyalty and compassion. I, job hopper extraordinaire. Loyalty works both ways.

Today. The world really look like a big fucking pile of shit.
